James Alexander McKenzie has a mention in The Edinburgh Reporter and talks on film about his three-fold multi-media work Alba down to Nippon which he’s currently exhibiting at the OPEN SSA+VAS exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy.

Alba down to Nippon at OPEN SSA+ VAS

James Alexander McKenzie will be introducing his new multi-media work Alba down to Nippon as part of OPEN SSA+VAS 2019-2020 at the Royal Scottish Academy (open 22nd Dec-30th Jan).

Alba down to Nippon encompasses painting, sculpture, poetry and performance. The performance element will happen at 3pm on Saturday 28th December and Saturday 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th January. Alba down to Nippon also includes an accompanying illustrated publication which can be bought from the gallery’s sales desk.

Alba down to Nippon is a multi-media artwork which includes a poetical live performance element in which McKenzie performs an offbeat, uplifting and slightly kitsch meditation on his time in Japan.

Fenris Wolf and Ragnar Thorfinn Act Three

The final Act of Fenris Wolf and Ragnar Thorfinn opens on Saturday 26th October at WASPS Studios, Stromness at 6pm (free public event, all welcome) and will be open 10-5 on Sunday 27th, Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th (also free & all welcome). 

Continuing with FW&RT’s characteristic diversity, Act 3 is taking the form of a more conventional art exhibition where McKenzie and O’Dempsey will be showcasing primarily visual work which they’ve been working on during their Orcadian residency.
