On Friday 28th Feb, James will be performing a selection of poems at Academy Late - the launch event for the new Salon Membership scheme at the Royal Scottish Academy. He’ll be performing alongside exhibiting New Contemporaries and Sarra Wild and Polyfilla. It’s going to be an exciting event and you are all invited! (to buy a ticket) 😂 It’s on 8:30-10:30pm and Leith Distillery’s Lindandlime gin(s) is included in the ticket price. 😍
“The evening will be hosted by Polyfilla, an alternative queer drag performer, Academy Late will let you enjoy RSA New Contemporaries after dark in the magnificent surroundings of the Royal Scottish Academy. View new artwork by emerging talents and chat with exhibitors in a late-night atmosphere, Glasgow based DJ, curator and promoter Sarra Wild will be playing a powerful set of cutting-edge music, and there will be live performances by exhibiting artists Katherine Fay Allan, Bibo Keeley and guest performer James Alexander McKenzie throughout the evening. Entry to the exhibition and drinks by Leith Distillery are included in the ticket price. Over 18s only.”
May I present my first two completed paintings of 2020 and the current #wip:
Watermelon Sugar, paint (mostly oil), mixed media and collage on board, dimensions tbc
The Assassination of Dr. Queso Empanada, paint (mostly oil), mixed media and collage on found board, 100 x 80 cm, 2019-20-infinity.
and Walden Pond, paint (mostly oil), mixed media and collage on found board, dimensions tbc
I actually actually began The Assassination of Dr. Queso Empanada around this time last year and thought it to be finished, but yesterday I decided to write the French expression ‘To understand all is to forgive all’ in the gray area. So, in a sense it took me a whole year to paint, or at least a year long hiatus to finish.
But then this got me thinking - as an essential element of the painting is a copy of the book ‘The Power of Now’ (on blue shelf), a book which I continually refer to, maybe this painting will never really be finished? 😲😨
